As technology become emerged and convenient, many people accessibly used social platforms as a virtual world to build relationships and as a tool of opportunity. We, people usually attached more often in updating our accounts–posting, reacting, sharing, and commenting are the things we do.

But are we knowledgeable enough what is the proper used of social media?

Social Media is a group of Internet-based applications that facilitates the communication, content-sharing, and collaboration. Using this social media platforms allowed us to communicate worldwide in spite of our geographic distance and social cultural differences. It also enables us to share and exchange of unlimited information which expand our knowledge and perceptions. It as well brings entertainment that helps to unleashed our boredom, this platform such as YouTube, Facebook, Pinterest, and many more explore us and open our minds to our interest. However, with this good qualities of social media, it also has bad side. As they say everything has pros and cons.

These are the corresponding problems/ bad side associated in using the social media inappropriately:

1. Excessive use of Gadgets

Most people especially youth, spend hours surfing through different sites back and forth on their phone without discovering that they spend too much time on using social media. Damaging their health and time, than being productive in life. Example of this, men are more exposed in using gadgets such as computer and cellphone, playing games which irritates their eyes and hurt their heads, causing an effect of mental and physical abuse. It also can be a distractions to many of us.

2. Infringement/Identity theft and Cyber-bullying

Having an access and use someone personal identity to scam others. And, stole information and making some stories to victimized a person is not morally a responsible user. For instance, having a strength to make fun of others to feel that you’re in elevate position is cyber-bullying. Also, using someone identity to fool others is against the law and as well in social media. So, be careful and aware to post information about yourself.

3. Misinformation

Spreading and creating fake news is one of the most prevalent we see in Facebook. Many users cannot identify what false information we shared or read. In other words, leading on dispersing the false rumors of other life is also one of the misinformation. We should be a good criticizer in believing and consuming information we had.

All things mentioned above, which one of those two sides are you as a social media user? How can you say that you are a responsible user?

This is a list of characteristics of Responsible User/Netizen:

✔A responsible netizen, refrains his/her self to post and comments offensively.

✔ Creates posts that are both positive and factual, does not show falsity.

✔Positive netizen, restrain to use offensive language and comment negatively.

✔ Respect others opinion, don’t nag or harm others. Avoid from bullying acts.

✔ Reports anything inappropriate content to the viewers.

✔ Do not plagiarize, uses proper citations.

✔Righteously understand, create, communicate, and evaluate/criticize someone’s work.

✔Mindful on others feelings. Thinks about the consequences of your action, if it will defame individual, group, or organization.

✔ Spread love not hate, share positive post and support other posts. Uplift them!💕

I, personally encourage everyone to be a reliable and responsible netizen/user because through this, people will gain trust and support on any information and content you sharing/creating. It not only benefits yourself, but also other people, our incoming new generation will serve and follow this concepts and setups to use social media effectively. I, as part of new generation considered myself as a responsible netizen because I applied this motto “Believe Nothing, Question Everything.” This saying tells us to be more observant and truth-seeker, to have and obtain fact-checking and verification which helps us to know the different sources we confronted. It also allowed us to investigate and found reliable and trustworthy websites and articles. Plus, I also implicates this quotation, “Don’t use social media to impress people; use it to impact people.” Social media created for interaction and expands our networking. It definitely used also to inspire people and brings positive change in the life of many people that encourage them to become better version of themselves -we called them influencer. Some influencer used this social platforms to impress and not thinking about the consequences of their actions. They just posting everything to be popular without think about what actions will take and what others see them.

Everything we post is a reflection of ourselves. Whenever we have something we like to post “think twice,” we never know what will be the effect of sudden actions. It can be used to fool others and may used against to you. So, better carefully watch and check your actions. Before it aggressively and abusively used you.

With every actions we do has enclosed with responsibility and obligations. As a person, citizen, it is good to never share things that are private and not over share personal information. Let us all just have enjoy and appreciate the used of different social media platforms. Remember! Think twice before you click because with just one click can make your virtual world miserable. So, be more aware and wisely in comes to social media. Ahmm.. Why not? Use social media as a opportunity not a distraction! It is a gate and window of opportunity. Many people use it to gain financial support. It is not only helps you financially but also can be a tool to grow as a person and can help you to find your purpose in this advanced and industrialized country. Because in this world, we never have choice but to follow and use it. It sometimes make me unhappy and feel blue on how technology influence and affect us in hindering personal and physical interactions. It is sad that we do not have power to stop this because even we do not want this kind of social life, we need it. Overall, as a user of social media, BE RESPONSIBLE AND WISELY NETIZEN!
